Roundup of the year

This is going to be another long post. So if you are in a hurry now I suggest you read it another day.

So one year is gone like that. 2005 – we are already 5 years into the millenium. Sometimes it really is quite fascinating that time passes so quickly. But before anything, I’ll do a wrap about the top 10 events that happened in 2004 for me:

10 – Directed my short film “Immobilized” and seeing it premiere in August.
9 – Appendicitis in March.
8 – Got elected into the Computing Club as the FOCC Chairperson.
7 – Throwing up enough guts to let a girl know that I like her.
6 – Revived my PC, seeing it die, and reviving it one more time.
5 – My laptop was admitted to ICU.
4 – Getting selected for NOC (Shanghai).
3 – The earthquake and the tsunami.
2 – Becoming the Resident Assistant at Block 29, PGP.
1 – Went to Hong Kong again!

Now a check against my wishlist from last year (taken from the journal entry on 1 Jan 2004):
1 – Me continuing to score good grades. Since Honours is almost impossible for me, I’ll make do with a safe Pass with Merit.
[Success: My grades in the two semesters in 2004 read 1 A+, 1 A, 3 A-, 1 B+, 2 B – so it must be good. And besides I’m continuing my Honours, and quietly knocking on the door of a second upper… keke]

2 – May the local Para Para scene continue to exist.
[No idea: I don’t even know what’s going on nowadays.]

3 – Go on tour to either Northern China or Japan or Korea.
[Failure: Just didn’t have the money]

4 – Go Hong Kong again.
[Success: Just came back about 2 weeks ago. What a trip. My best HK trip so far!]

5 – May my family be well and healthy.
[Failure: Dad went into hospital in February, and I went in in March]

6 – May the economy finally recover fully so no one would go jobless
[Partial Success: Apparently the economy has recovered, but it doesn’t seem that everyone is benefiting from it.]
.
7 – May the democrats in Hong Kong have a painful demise.
[Partial Success: At least there are some people who hate them enough to be against them.]

8 – May there be no war in whichever place on earth.
[Failure: Everyone is still fighting everyone else everywhere.]

9 – May there be no horrible diseases flying around.
[Failure: Bird flu.]

10 – May there finally be a girl who cares about me as much as I care about her.
[Partial Failure: I suspect there is, but neither me nor her dares to tell each other that. Or am I thinking too much?]

So come to look at it, 2004 has not been that entirely good, because the wish completion rate is at a miserable 20%. Compared with the 40% in 2003, it definitely had not been a good year. But then again, it was great while some of the things lasted. So I guess I shouldn’t complain too much.

And now it’s the wishlist for 2005:
1 – Spending a great year in Shanghai.
2 – Go Hong Kong again.
3 – May my family be well throughout the year.
4 – Get a new phone that comes with a MP3 player and a decent camera.
5 – My FOCC can do a great job by having a successful camp, FOW, and hopefully, a bash.
6 – Be a volunteer and help people who are less fortunate than me.
7 – Hope my friends still remember me after I’ve gone to Shanghai.
8 – Everyone be happy about his or her life.
9 – Complete my Co-Op project very very soon.
10 – May there finally be a girl who cares about me as much as I care about her.

The last day in 2004 was a good one for me. I was lazing around at home in the day, watching TV with sis, who was down with the flu and didn’t go to school. Made my way to school at about 4, and did my emails before Rena came at about 7. Initially I asked her to come down to Comp Club for a little New Year Eve gathering, but thinking that there might not be that many people coming, we decided to go to town. We went to Lido to catch Kung Fu Hustle. I wasn’t that entirely impressed with the movie, but I’ve seen worse films before so I don’t really think Kung Fu Hustle was that bad. It was funny, just that it really sprung no surprise. Maybe Stephen Chow is really past it.

After the movie the two of us went for a walkabout at Esplanade before going to Lau Pa Sat for dinner/supper. While we were having our desserts, the clock struck 12 and the people around us were cheering a bit. It’s definitely a refreshing way to welcome in the new year. Wanted to return to school after that, but we somehow contrived to miss the last bus. So we went over to the Art House, where Rena went to see her friend. Decided to come back to school after that, considering that both of us were pretty tired after an evening out.

So here I am, spending the first few hours of 2005 in the Comp Club office. It’s good to see people around here – at least it makes for a very warm and cosy New Year Day (even though everyone is enjoying themselves playing Gunbound). It was a great New Year’s Eve as far as I’m concerned, and I hope the year can be just as great as the last day of the last year. I think the sea monster is visiting now though.

Will turn 25 in 7 months’ time. Scary thought.

To those people whom I didn’t bother to send a SMS greeting, happy new year and hope to see you guys before I go to Shanghai. I’m sure 2005 will be amuch better year than 2004. Cheers.
