fToday was a half-day for me as far as work is concerned. My boss, my client and I went walking around downtown Seattle in the morning. The weather wasn’t very cold like what I expected it to be, so two layers were all I have and I didn’t really feel too cold. Saw a few very interesting places including the Space Needle, and I was kinda surprised by the fact that a city like Seattle has only 600,000 people. I mean, I could do with such a place!
It was then off to work in the afternoon. I gave a presentation, my client gave his and I did the translation (which is actually the part that I don’t really like but hey what the heck, I should be happy with doing that and I actually am) for my client because he spoke very little English. But I think the entire meeting went very well and it was a real eye opener for me because the way the American market works is so different from that of the Chinese market. It was something that I’ve never expected and I’m sure it muist be very interesting not just for me but for both my boss and my client as well.
After the meeting, my boss’ friend came by to pick us up for dinner, but not before taking us to some places around Seattle for some beautiful sceneries. I was totally in awe of those sceneries – I mean, I’ve been to quite a few places in the world, and while I’ll rate the Hong Kong night scenery as the most beautiful in the world, the one in Seattle was equally breathtaking. It was like so out of this world and it wouldn’t be too far off target to say that I’ve fallen in love with this place.
Dinner was at some very nice restaurant call Palisade and everything about it was nice. The food was great, the scenery was brilliant, and the service was just wonderful as well! You don’t get all of those combned together in Shanghai, or even Singapore for that matter. I was that impressed. After dinner and sending my client back to the hotel, my boss and I went with her friend and her girlfriend to a bar nearby to chill out a little. And I think I really enjoyed myself very much. It’s like I really get to be myself and not have to worry about what other people really thinks because I’m with a group of Americans with really open minds and they are opened to almost everything. They don’t get offended as easily as we Asians do, and I pretty much let myself out a whole lot, which is something that I enjoyed very much. We chatted about a lot of things, and it was great to hear from my boss’ friend’s girlfriend that actually some Amercian girls would find me attractive even though I’m not the most outstanding-looking guy out there. She was saying that my personality is something that is very unique as far as real Asian guys are concerned. My boss also commented that actually I would fit into the American society very well with my personality. I really appreciated that. But as for the part about finding a girl who appreciates me, that’s going to be the tough part, but I’ll figure it out somehow.
I’ve got a presentation to do at 10 in the morning in front of a lot of important people so I’d better be taking a rest now. I don’t want to look so sleepy tomorrow in front of them.
I’ll be kinda free after tomorrow, so I’m really looking forward to that!
