I remembered when I first arrived in Shanghai I never believed in the weather forecast. All the weather forecasts back home in Singapore has never been accurate – or perhaps they have been so predictable it’s hard to change. So for the first few months here I always did not act according to what the weatherman said. Sometimes I got away with it, sometimes I don’t. But one thing that I observed over these months is that the weather forecasts in Shanghai are exceptionally accurate. Perhaps not for the temperature part, but the rain or shine part is definitely accurate. It’s been quite a while since they last expected something otherwise, or having wrong forecasts. After a while, I started to take the weather forecasts a bit more seriously, though I still don’t bring an umbrella out unless I see rain falling down. Nowadays as the temperature drops, I think there is more of a need to look at the weather forecasts because unlike rainy days when I can just find a shelther somewhere, a cold day would definitely require me to wear more. Nowadays the temperature has been constantly between 14 to 20 degrees, so it’s just fine wearing a windbreaker. But I figure when the temperature continues to go further down, more dressing is required. That’s where the weather forecasts would come in useful!
Work today was OK – did what I was supposed to do and everything seemed fine. Another day gone, another day nearer to home. Of course if I were to be constantly counting down the days to go back it’s not going to make my remaining days in Shanghai any better to bear, but at least it gives me something to look forward to, and be motivated to perform well until that day I go back to Singapore. And while I continue to ponder if I’m actually going to miss this place – I haven’t really have a conclusion yet – I will just try to finish up whatever that’s left for me before handing over to whoever that’s going to take over my work.
Sleeping early last night definitely helped – I’m wide awake now!
