Meetings.

Attended 2 meetings today. Got another one tomorrow, then another one on Friday, one more next Monday… I think it would be good if I list attending meetings as one of my favourite past-times. At least I won’t feel bored about going for all these meetings.

I have one voice telling me that it’s the holidays so I should go enjoy myself, but at the same time there is another voice telling me that I should work hard for my HYP as well as the FOCC. It’s such a tough dilemma.

I do want to go to KL for a weekend. How much should I prepare?

The definitive guide to cutting aluminium cans.

Was in school today to help the rag and flag team with their float-building efforts, and was given the task of cutting up the aluminium drinks cans that we collected over the semester. After spending a few cans to test, I came up with this guide to cutting the cans.

1. Place the can opener on the top of the can, with the blade just below the rim.

2. Press hard to make an opening to the can. Put the can on a static surface to facilitate better cutting.

3.Turn the can opener knob in an anti-clockwise manner. You should be able to see the gap between the lid and the can opening up.

4. Remove the can opener and the lid after you have turned the can opener round the can once. Sometimes the end point of the turn might not be in line with the start point. When that happens, gently pull the lid away from the can to remove the lid.

5. A nicely cut can!

Caution: Always wear protective gear such as gloves when you are opening the can as the cut up can edges can be very sharp and can cause serious injuries.

Have fun cutting cans!

Sunday.

Spent the whole day at home trying to get the last bit of rest before moving full steam ahead tomorrow. So what I did was watch 2 of the DVDs that my sis bought from Hong Kong.

Actually I have no idea what I’m going to do in school tomorrow. I think I might want to meet my HYP supervisor first, get some directions here and there and let him know some of my thoughts while I was away. And then I will probably help the Rag & Flag team to work on the float. And then I probably might hide inside the honours lab to do some research for my HYP.

I think I would need to get a Mini SD Card reader. The Vodafone 903SH that I bought is a nice little gadget, but some of the features are a bit too troublesome for me to manipulate without a SD Card reader. Besides the SD Card reader, I’d probably need to get a piece of screen protector for the phone as well. The originial piece of the screen protector is way too big for the screen so now it makes the flipping open of the phone a bit too troublesome and thus not very cool.

Oh ya, since my results were out I think I’m kinda obliged to tell everyone how I did. I think all I can say is that the results have been pretty freaky. As far as the results are concerned I think they were good, but I think I was more lucky rather than anything. I guess to a certain extent I don’t think I deserved the grades, but since I’ve got them I’m not going to complain. At least it makes the HYP a little bit less pressurising.

See you tomorrow.

Singapore.

After 3 weeks away, I’m finally sitting in front of my desk here at home in Singapore.

After being away for so long, it does gets a little bit surreal coming back home. Not that I dread coming back to Singapore like I did the last few times (cos I kinda know that I would be back in Hong Kong at the end of the year), but it just feels weird. Hopefully the mountain of work that is awaiting me are going to let me get re-accustomized to the environment soon enough. I’ve got a faculty orientation to look after, a Honours Year Project to worry about, a union camp to be working on, and many many more things that I probably have already lost count.

So the travelogue for these 3 weeks would probably have to wait a bit longer.

Oh thanks Samantha, Lingling, Michelle and Ada for the great few weeks!

Hong Kong.

I’m back in Hong Kong after spending a few days in Shanghai. Now I’ve got about a week to go before heading back to Singapore, and it’s time to start doing some shopping…

The last few days in Shanghai was very much a rush. Arrived on Thursday and went to Wujiang Road with my sister to try some local Shanghai food, but because of the typhoon it was so rainy and windy it kinda put us off. The next day was spent walking around Shanghai, did quite a bit of sightseeing before heading out again in the evening to meet a few friends. Saturday was spent in Tongli. Initially wanted to go to Xitang instead, but some lack of information meant that we ended up at Tongli instead. All the same, I guess these water towns are like “see one see them all” type. The highlight of the day was meeting up with the NOC juniors, but it kinda ended up more like a old man story telling session… Sunday was spent walking around downtown Shanghai before leaving on a 8pm flight back to Hong Kong.

5 more days to go before heading back to Singapore. Got quite a few things that I want to buy – let see at the end of it what I really would get for myself.

See you guys around.

Shanghai.

After a week of non-updates while I was in Hong Kong, I suddenly found myself sitting here in Shanghai!

Anyway for the past few days in Hong Kong it was really fun. I got to know some new friends, went to interesting places, ate a lot (haha)… the bad thing though was that the two days before I came to Shanghai a typhoon actually hit Hong Kong so it was rather rainy and windy. Thank God it went away yesterday, but when I arrived in Shanghai I realised that I somehow managed to catch the typhoon here!

Would be staying here for a few days before going back to Hong Kong, and back to Singapore next Saturday. Hope everything’s going to be great!

And it’s wonderful to be able to actually have access to broadband internet again!

Mong Kok.

I’m sitting in the Internet Cafe in Mong Kok again.

Went to Disneyland yesterday and while it was fun, the weather was bad. It was way too hot and bright and I think by the time I got out of the place I was about as red as a cooked lobster. Now if you were to have some soy sauce with you I’m sure I would have tasted good.

Didn’t really do much for the past few days here in Hong Kong cos honestly speaking, there really aren’t much for me to do since I’ve planned my shopping to be done on the last few days before I go back to Singapore. That said, I still bought myself some stuffs – I bought the new Portugese national team shirt!

I’ve got my Shanghai trip sorted out and I’ll be there on 18th to 21st. Somehow I’m not exactly excited about the trip. Oh well.

Mong Kok.

I’m sitting in my favourite internet cafe in Mong Kok again!

These two days basically were just spent walking around the place and didn’t really do much shopping. My sister was suggesting that it would be more fun to control the spending for the first two weeks or so and do the shopping at one shot in the last week. I think I kinda agree with her.

But then there are some problems. First of all is that it’s just way too hot here in Hong Kong and I don’t know why – apparently summer has come early! And another thing is I’m feeling rather tired but I don’t seem to be able to sleep well last night, so this whole day was just plain tiring for me.

Would be going to Disneyland tomorrow – I hope I have fun!

Changi Airport.

I think I’ve developed a knack to update my journal whenever I’m flying off to somewhere from Changi Airport. Anyway for those of you who didn’t know already (seems like I’ve been telling the whole world that I’m going away but not a single soul sent me an SMS wishing me bon voyage… you ungrateful brats… no gifts for you!), I’m flying off to Hong Kong today and would be back on the 27th. As I’m flying Cathay Pacific this time, I’m definitely expecting something much better!

Anyway will try to update as often as possible once I get there, and if you have any last minute shopping list please send them to my usual mailbox. Remember to do the proper fund transfer into my account too!

See you guys around!

Elections.

The GE is over. Final score? PAP 82 Opposition 2. In terms of number of seats the results may have stayed the same as last year, but in an election that is claimed to be the mandate, PAP was given 66% of the votes. Quite interesting for a final result. Now let’s see what’s going to happen to us now when the elections are over. I just hope that I get to vote in the next elections.

Life would probably be back to normal after the elections are over. Or would it?
