I know I am a pseudo-research student who is pretending to be competent in research and am able to think critically about all things academic. But when I look at the comments given by my supervisor for my second draft, I can’t help but feel confused. Put it very simply, this is what I would say to him:
“Please be clear about what you are unclear about, otherwise I will also be very unclear about what you are unclear about, and I would not be clear about how to make it clear to you.”
There was still a heavy use of question marks and the occasional use of the one-word “huh” which really left me asking myself “what is he huh-ing about?”.
But considering that this time round I didn’t really get slaughtered the way I was for the first draft, I shouldn’t be so bitter. At least this time round I’m getting more “tidy up your paragraphs” – that in itself is already an achievement. After all I did receive my first so-called praise in the second draft:
“The citations are great…”
Of course nothing is perfect in this world:
“… but the way you link them is weird.”
All hail the real world. Now onto the third draft.
By the way, a really nice and funny video (linked from Chin Keong’s blog) to cheer everyone up:
