Unusual.

Today wasn’t an ordinary day.

I left office at 6.15pm, got on the bus at about 6.25, and when I reached the bus stop at my estate, it was 8pm. Because of the downpour, the whole stretch of Hennessy Road from Wan Chai to Causeway Bay was jammed up like mad. I believe the jam started out at the Cross Harbour Tunnel, then to Gloucester Road, and then basically every road that connects Gloucester Road got jammed up. Caught in a traffic jam was already not fun, but to be standing throughout the entire journey was almost unbearable! For the record, the most outstanding part of the whole jam was it took me roughly an hour to reach Victoria Park from Wan Chai – I would probably take less than that amount of time if I were to go through the same stretch on foot!

The happier part of the day was I finally decided to give a couple of my best friends in Singapore a call just for a chat. It was nice hearing their voices, and hopefully I get to see their faces soon.

I’m off to iron my clothes for work tomorrow, and then off to sleep. Work has been tiring for the past couple of days because there were quite a bit of them, but I thought I’m having fun, so that’s all worth it.

Singapore.

I think I’m planning a trip back to Singapore sometime in June. The trip could be long or short, depending on my work situation. If I’m lucky in my job, then the trip would be short. But if things don’t turn out well, the trip would be longer. Either way, it’s still not a permanent move back to Singapore, so for those of you back home who want to see me everyday, I have to disappoint you!

It has been almost a year since I last made a trip back, and to be honest, at this moment in time I just want to do a good recharge. The past few occasions in which I went out of Hong Kong have been always tiring, as I was always on the go, seeing one place after another. But a trip back to Singapore would be somewhat different. It’s basically meeting friends, eat around and spending time with my mum, and I think that’s quite a nice thought. Of course, there are some people whom I want to see everyday when I head back, and there might be some things I want to do when I’m back there too – for example, going to Universal Studios!

Perhaps I’ll tentatively pencil it for 16 to 20 June. The air tickets don’t seem that expensive at this point of time, so I guess I should book it in advance. Haha.

Monga.

I went to watch Monga with my sis just now, and without realizing, it was my first movie for 2010. Seems like the cinema is one of the last places that you’ll ever find me!

Anyway the movie was quite a nice one. Of course, if you don’t understand the context of the Taiwanese society, or the Hokkien that was being spoken throughout the movie, it might be a bit hard to really have a good grasp of the movie. But for someone like me who grew up speaking Hokkien in the army, it wasn’t that difficult. So for me, the movie was a good one. Of course, the cinematography was very good, and I quite like the shots and the angles used in the movie, and I think that gave an already exciting storyline an even better presentation.

To be honest, lately I haven’t really been going to the cinema to watch movies. There are always a lot of movies that I’m interested to watch, but somehow always seem to forget all about them. I enjoy watching movies actually, but I guess sometimes my lazy bones have made it such that I feel it’s too troublesome to actually go to a cinema! But then again, if you are interested to go to the movies with me, let me know and I’ll always be happy to go with you! That said, I’m very picky with my movies, so don’t get me to go watch those low class comedies!

Friday.

After a week of work, I’ve got an afternoon to endure before the weekend. I guess there’s something common in working people everywhere (regardless of how much you love your job), and that is everyone looks forward to the weekend.

For the past couple of days, I have been accompanying some guests who are in town, and I guess that’s pretty good training for me in many aspects. There are obviously many things that require looking after, and given that I’m not really a detail-minded person, having to take care of things that require much detail is really a very difficult thing for me, and that probably explains why I’m so tired right now! I’ve got about one and a half hours to go in this “ordeal” – hope I can make it through.

Anyway the teeth is getting slightly better, but I’ve still got Phase 2 of the op to be done on 5th May – hope that the things done in Phase 1 can hold up until then.

Finally conjured up enough time to see a dentist to get my tooth problem fixed. It turned out that the tooth decay that was bothering me since last month was more serious than thought. The dentist told me that the last dentist didn’t do a good job at all as all he did was put some temporary filling (which actually dropped off last week when I was in Guangzhou), and the situation was such that it required more than just conventional filling to fix the problem.

The dentist suggested that I could either put a cap on the tooth, or have it extracted and replaced with an implant. For me, cost was the sole consideration, and since an implant is going to cost almost $20,000, I took the other option. The operation took about 20 minutes, and I think everything is good. So far it feels fine, but obviously I have to wait a few days to see how everything would turn out.

I’ll have to visit the dentist again in 3 weeks’ time, so please continue to pray for me that the repair is going to hold up. But as for today, I hope to be able to have a good night’s sleep, as the pain has woken me up each night for the past 3 nights…

Work.

Have you ever encounter a situation in which your boss or your supervisor is getting maxed out at work, and deep inside you actually feel upset for him/her?

Anyway work was pretty hectic for me today as I had to be attending to quite a few different things going on at the same time. Strangely, while I was doing all those work today, I actually felt quite happy doing them. Or perhaps I’m happy about something else, of which that happiness somehow managed to route to my work. Either way, it was a good day today for me.

Weekend’s here, but it’s going to be hectic again – it’s been a long time since I last spent both days of the weekend at home completely, but I’m not complaining. In fact that makes me treasure my whatever free time left even more!

Work.

After a long holiday, I was back at work today and to a certain extent, it wasn’t really too bad a day. I think most people dread the first day of work after a long break, but because today I was pretty busy with all the things that I have to be doing, so time did sort of passed by fairly quickly. As I have some fairly large-scale things coming up next week, these few days are spent fully on preparing for that, and I hope everything is going to be fine, as I really don’t want anything to cock up along the way next week.

The weather today was pretty cool, and to be honest, it was a really perfect weather to sleep in! It was quite different from the two days in Guangzhou on Monday and Tuesday. The weather for that two days were really warm and humid, as I really had a tough time battling with the weather. Of course it didn’t help when I climbed almost 200 steps of stairs at Yuexiu Park on the first day which kind of exhausted my energy for the remaining time of my trip, but I thought the trip itself wasn’t too bad – getting away from Hong Kong is always nice, and even though Guangzhou is still as messy as ever, I thought I had a nice little break. Furthermore, White Swan Hotel was really nice, and the breakfast was brilliant!

I hope to be able to go Shanghai sometime in June or July to see Expo 2010, and hopefully I can squeeze some time to head to Singapore sometime in the year too. It was a wretch that I couldn’t fly back to Singapore to witness Donald’s wedding during Easter because of those terrorist prices the airlines were charging, so I hope I can make the trip back to see them soon.

I think I’ll go have my shower, and then probably off to sleep.

Sunday.

I had a very good day today. I really think God’s grace is amazing, and there’s really nothing much we can dispute about that. Just have to praise Him.

Anyway I have 3 more days of break left in this Easter holidays, and I hope that I will get to enjoy these few days, have a good rest, and hopefully return to work recharged.

Getting a bit tired, and I need to wake up early for an early train tomorrow – for your information, I’m heading over to Guangzhou for 2 days and will be back on Tuesday. Because of the Great Firewall of China, I won’t be bringing my netbook over as chances are I won’t be able to access FB or update my journal, so I’ll just try to take a few more pictures and hopefully can upload them when I’m back on Tuesday.

Have a great remaining Easter holiday.

Holidays.

The long Easter break is here, and for once, I’m staying put in Hong Kong and not really going anywhere in particular. Even so, this long break is still packed with activities.

I was with my brothers and sisters from church yesterday for an excursion to Lamma Island, and I thought it was a very interesting trip. It has been a long time since I last went to Lamma Island, and I can’t even say the place has changed a lot, because I can’t even remember when was the last time I was there! I saw the windmill for the wind power plant, as well as a lot of interesting marine life at the Fishermen Culture Village. The weather wasn’t the best though as it was warm and humid in the morning, but pretty cool in the afternoon. There was also a bit of rain, but thank God it wasn’t heavy.

Spent today watching two football matches, first in Yuen Long where South China took on Citizen AA in the HKFA Cup. The match wasn’t the best, partly because the referee was so bad that I think he had no clue about what he was doing throughout the entire match. I left after the 90 minutes were up, as I had to rush to Causeway Bay for another match – this time the Manchester United vs Chelsea match which was organized by Now TV. Again, the match wasn’t the best, because the referee decided that he wanted to be in the centre stage. Sometimes watching football can be very frustrating, especially when referees decided that they want to be the main focus of the games, rather than the players. I could never believe how Drogba’s goal was allowed to stand given that he was clearly offside, and I think the ref should be so ashamed of himself when he watches the replay after the game that he would never referee another game of football again.

Oh well, not the best day in this extended break so far, but then again, I’ve got a few more days of break to look forward to, and I’m sure everything’s going to be fine.
